Upper Holme Farm Shop, Holme Marsh, Lyonshall, Herefordshire, HR5 3JU, United Kingdom
Who are we?
We are James & Sue Thorne, and we farm a 110 acre smallholding at Upper Holme, Near Holme Marsh in the parish of Lyonshall. Some of our land is actually in Almeley Parish just down the road. We run a mixed farming enterprise of livestock and crops, and have brought up our two boys, Jon & Rich, in this delightful corner of Herefordshire.
In 2006 we obtained financial assistance from DEFRA to diversify into the farm shop enterprise, and this enabled us to fit out and refurbish a beautiful timber-framed barn of 1,200 sq. ft (120 sq.m) and to provide the tarmac entrance and car parking area that we have today.
What are we about?
We aim to offer a wide range of locally produced foods and products, either traditionally-produced or with organic status. Whilst much of our product range is from our own smallholding we welcome other local producers and have a very diverse supplier base. We are family run, and employ locally. As well as our own time, our two boys help, which, together with Joy Davies from Eardisley (James’s sister) and Kay King from Holme Marsh, keeps the shop staffed, stocked and operational.
The main product ranges that we stock include:-
Fresh meat, eggs and dairy products;
Fresh fruit and vegetables in season;
Jams, Preserves, spices and snacks, bread and cakes;
Local crafts and hand-made items;
Garden Supplies including mulch.
